 How to Become A Parish Affiliate of Albany Via Media

Albany Via Media is a grass roots organization of clergy and lay people who love the Episcopal Church with her rich diversity and comprehensiveness.  We are deeply committed to the life of common prayer and the prayer book faith we have received. We choose the middle way in the Diocese of Albany, believing that our theology, politics, beliefs on sexuality or other issues are formed in prayer by scripture, tradition and reason.  While membership is on an individual basis, we recognize the parish as the basic unit of the church and the front line for mission.

Some parishes have chosen to affiliate as a way to identify themselves as loyal to the doctrine, discipline and worship of Christ in the Episcopal Church USA and our Primate, the Presiding Bishop. They recognize the General Convention of the Episcopal Church USA as our highest authority in our church, even if they do not agree with all of its actions.  For those parishes, affiliation has been a way to oppose Biblical fundamentalism and the literal, inerrant interpretation of Holy Scripture.  For others, affiliation will be a way to stand in solidarity with those who seek to restore our Anglican diversity in the Diocese of Albany.  For all, AVM affiliation will link parishes together to share resources and strategies; to live out our Lord’s Great Commandment in love, diversity, and compassion. AVM will provide linkage with mainstream Episcopalians around the country.

How do I affiliate my parish with the AVM?

By affiliating with the AVM, a parish signifies that it has accepted the basic tenets of AVM, as described in A Place To Kneel and it may communicate this by completing the attached form. This form may be easily printed out from the web site by clicking here. After we receive the signed form from your parish, we will sign and send (or FAX if you send us a FAX number)  it back to you for your records.

If your parish chooses to affiliate with the AVM, we ask that your parish consider:

Ø      Including the AVM as a line item in your budget for an amount that is appropriate for your parish.

Ø      Developing a format of regular parish prayer for the work of the AVM, the Diocese, and the Church.

Ø      Encouraging all parishioners to become individual members of AVM. To do this a parishioner completes an Individual Affiliation Form and then mails it to AVM.
