A Statement by the Board
Defer Consideration of the Covenant
The Directors of Albany Via Media question the need for an Anglican Communion Covenant, and we have serious reservations about Section 4 of the version thereof that is now under consideration. Clearly wide discussion of that document is needed. In the Diocese of Albany, it has barely begun.
We urge the 2010 Diocesan Convention to discuss the proposed Covenant but make no decision on it until General Convention does so. A preemptive decision by Albany would serve no useful purpose. It would, rather, increase tensions within this diocese and between it and the national Church.

A motion for endorsement of the proposed Anglican Communion Covenant is on the agenda for June's Diocesan convention. Would such endorsement be too soon? Should there even be such a covenant? If so, is the proposed covenant good enough?
