God grant that we may maintain that middle way, not as a compromise for the sake of peace, but as a comprehension for the sake of truth.

About the proposed Anglican Covenant

A resolution of endorsement by The Diocese of Albany of the proposed Anglican Communion Covenant was passed at the meeting of the Diocesan convention on June 12, 2010.

The Board of Albany Via Media had recommended that the Diocese not undertake to endorse the proposed Covenant before its consideration by the General Convention of The Episcopal Church.

On November 3, 2010 an international organization called No Anglican Covenant: Anglicans for Comprehensive Unity went public both on the web and on Facebook. Six weeks later its Facebook presence had more than 800 followers.

No Anglican Covenant's website is the source of a great deal of information about the proposed Anglican Covenant.

Of particular interest is the question of whether or not the Church of England will adopt the proposed Covenant. The CofE's General Synod in November 2010 voted to send the question to diocesan synods before itself making a final decision. As of early December 2011, out of 45 dioceses in the Church of England, 4 had voted "for" and 4 had voted "against".

In October 2011 the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church prepared a resolution against adopting the proposed Covenant for action at the General Convention in the summer of 2012.

The proposed Covenant will continue to be a topic of discussion.
